The local programme will be implemented in the whole of both Ioannina and Thesprotia (only the Municipal Community of Ioannina is excluded).
In general, the intervention area is characterised by
- from mountainous massifs in the hinterland, which produce remarkable local agri-food products that are mainly marketed locally with rudimentary packaging and processing.
- from areas under development that are concentrated in the perimeter of the Municipalities of Ioannina and Igoumenitsa with an economy that has a stable craft economy with a large number of small businesses with the main characteristic being the lack of high quality products, competitive with export potential.
- from the coastal zone, with a stable economic development, which is directly dependent on tourism, and efforts should be made for an integrated multifunctional exploitation of the tourist product in connection with local products and other activities.
The objectives of the local CLLD/LEADER multisectoral and multi-sectoral programme and the strategy adopted to achieve these objectives:
- Objective 1: Production of quality, certified, competitive agri-food products.
- Objective 2: Competitive craft units. (production of quality competitive products with export potential).
- Objective 3: High quality and special forms of tourism.
- Objective 4: Protection and enhancement of the natural and built environment and intangible heritage.
- Objective 5: Improvement of the quality of life of rural residents by creating suitable and attractive living conditions and improving the quality of life of the population, especially in the more mountainous and remote municipalities and small fishing settlements of the intervention area.
- Objective 6: Strengthening the sustainability of fisheries areas, which will be achieved through public projects to support the fisheries and aquaculture sector and environmental protection, as well as private projects to enhance the competitiveness of businesses and the income of the inhabitants of fisheries areas.
The above objectives are based on the Key Thematic Direction which is defined on the basis of the needs, dynamics, potential and prospects of the intervention area and is:
